The main advantage of switch mode power supply is that it generates power with high efficiency and low current, and the output current and voltage can be adjusted freely. The principle of a switching power supply is to convert direct current into high-frequency pulse signals, and then output the converted current into stable direct current through a high-frequency transformer and rectifier circuit. Switching power supplies have the characteristics of good power integration, controllability, high-frequency multi-level modulation, low noise, and strong overload capacity.
Compared to regulated power supplies, switch mode power supplies have a more stable and accurate output voltage, but slightly higher fluctuation noise in the output because their outputs are all direct current and can operate under a wide range of input voltages and output loads. At the same time, there is a controller that implements protection functions and can also adjust and limit output power to ensure the safety of power supply and load.
In short, both regulated power supplies and switching power supplies have their own advantages and disadvantages. We can choose a power supply that suits our needs to better ensure the normal operation of circuits and equipment.
